How did I evolve from Neurosurgery into the
Treatment of Chronic Pain?
For about 20 years, as a Neurosurgeon and Neurologist, I solved many problems; in some cases completely, in others partially, and I finally in a few others I was either not able to solve them or they did not have a structural solution.
In 1982 I went through a professional growth "crisis": Neurosurgery had ceased to give me joy, and the surgical working position caused me neck as waist stiffness and pain. My original attraction to Neurosurgery was gone!

I gradually became aware of my new interest: the treatment of chronic pain, especially musculoskeletal pains, muscle contractures and postural imbalances. I studied several Manual Techniques to relieve pain, including Orthobionomy, stretching of the musculature, vertebral axial decompressions and local anesthetic injections.

Through this crisis, with the use of body-mind work, I discovered that, in the past, I had blocked my emotions. After releasing them, I was able to show tenderness for the first time.

I learned to listen to my patients, their concerns and motivations and their relationship with pain. Now I encourage my patients to express their feeling, and I teach them to distinguish between physical and emotional pains and to identify worn-out thinking patterns. Besides solving their pain and muscular contraction disorders, I also try to reeducate my patients to have more comfortable body postures and positions and to exercise to prevent new bursts of pain.

I hope this testimonial helps you to take better care of your health.

Sincerely,

Dr. RODOLFO LEISERSON, M.D.
